Mental health from fertility to postpartum
Becoming a parent can be a mentally and emotionally challenging process long before parenthood begins, from trying to conceive, throughout pregnancy, and even months into the postpartum period.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month and Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month, in this episode of DocTalk, we wanted to shed light on the hormonal changes, life stressors, and shifting circumstances that can impact mental health along the way.
Today, we’ll break down what’s happening in the body and brain during TTC, pregnancy, and postpartum, how these changes can affect mental health, and how to recognize when common experiences like the baby blues may signal something more serious, such as postpartum depression or anxiety, and when it may be time to seek support.
Hosts:
Dr. Janet Choi, Chief Medical Officer, Progyny
Lissa Kline, LCSW, SVP, Provider and Member Services
