Female faculty alleges harassment at SMS Medical College; inquiry launched

Jaipur: A female faculty member at Sawai Mansingh (SMS) Medical College in Rajasthan's Jaipur has filed allegations of misconduct and harassment against a senior professor in her department. The complaint, filed nearly a month ago, has triggered parallel administrative inquiries at both the college and state levels.

Following the complaint, the college administration initiated a formal internal investigation. The Principal constituted an inquiry committee to examine the allegations and submit findings for further action. The committee completed its review and submitted its report earlier this week.

According to a report by Bhaskar English, the matter has also drawn the attention of the state Medical Department. The Principal Secretary, Gayatri Rathore, has formed a separate two-member team and sought a detailed report.  

The internal inquiry includes two Additional Principals—Dr. R.K. Jain and Dr. Monica Jain—former Additional Principal B.L. Kumawat, Student Welfare Dean Dr Anita Singhal, two other senior officials, as well as the current and former Heads of the Department. After thoroughly examining the matter, the committee prepared its findings and submitted them to the Principal.

Confirming the development, the Principal stated, “A complaint was received, following which a committee was constituted to investigate the matter.”

Medical Dialogues recently reported that a third-year female resident doctor from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Gorakhpur, who was allegedly subjected to racial slurs, stalking, and physical assault by three men near the institute, police said on Monday, adding that all three accused have been arrested. The National Federation of Resident Doctors of All AIIMS and INIs (NAFORD) has written to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, seeking immediate intervention and justice in connection with the incident.
