Maharashtra FDA cancels Cipla C&F drug sale licences in Pune

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cancelled the drug sale licences of Cipla Pharma & Life Sciences Ltd’s C&F facility at Wadki, Pune.

The action follows inspections in June 2026 involving Reactin Plus Tablets, a Schedule H prescription medicine.

According to the FDA, the packaging carried the claim “Analgesic & Antipyretic” along with promotional material. The regulator considered this non-compliant with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules.

The FDA seized Reactin Plus stock worth Rs 11.19 lakh and directed its withdrawal from the market. It said the company did not fully comply with the recall directions.

A subsequent inspection also found deficiencies in storage and record-keeping, including discrepancies between physical and computerised stock. Medicines were also found stored directly on the floor, according to the FDA.

The FDA later issued a show-cause notice before cancelling the licences.

Cipla has contested the order. The company said the matter is sub judice and that the order does not allege any concerns over the safety, quality or efficacy of its products.
