Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences Sanathnagar inauguration rescheduled to June 2

Hyderabad: The Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) at Sanathnagar is now expected to be inaugurated on 2 June 2026, following multiple delays that pushed the opening from the originally scheduled date of March 19. The postponement is due to pending construction work, equipment installation, and staffing arrangements.

The State Health Department had initially announced the hospital’s inauguration on Ugadi, but the pending works prevented the event. Officials confirmed that the government is now planning inaugurations of multiple state projects during the Telangana Formation Day celebrations, as part of the 99-day action plan. TIMS is expected to be included in this batch, with the opening tentatively set for June 2.

The project has seen multiple delays due to pending construction works, equipment installation, and staffing arrangements. Around 450 healthcare personnel — including doctors and nurses — will be deployed from other state-run hospitals on a temporary basis after the health facility is opened, reports TOI.

The hospital is a key component of Telangana’s plan to expand super-speciality healthcare services and reduce the patient load at major hospitals in Hyderabad. Additionally, two more TIMS facilities are under construction in Alwal and LB Nagar, aimed at providing multi-speciality healthcare services to communities in northern and eastern Hyderabad, respectively.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that around 450 healthcare personnel, including doctors, nurses, technicians, and pharmacists, have been deployed from various government hospitals across the city to operationalise the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) at Sanathnagar. A senior health official stated that roughly one-third of the 450 staff are doctors, while the remaining two-thirds comprise nurses and paramedical personnel, with nurses forming the largest group. Specialists have been temporarily drawn from prominent hospitals, including Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Quthbullapur, Maheshwaram, Maternity Hospital Koti, Niloufer Hospital, and ENT Hospital.
