Andrew Hay appointed as Oral Health Foundation chief executive

From January 2027, Andrew Hay will take over as chief executive of the Oral Health Foundation – find out more about him below.

Andrew Hay previously served on the Oral Health Foundation’s Board of Trustees, which the charity said gives him a strong understanding of its work, mission, values and strategy.

His background is in retail, having worked in people and operations for major supermarkets such as Co-op and Sainsbury’s.

Professor Tim Newton, chair of the Board of Trustees, said: ‘Andrew brings a commercially focused, people-first approach, together with a strong emphasis on organisational development, planning and delivery.’

Professor Newton also thanked Kerry Geldart, who has been acting in the role of interim chief executive and will remain within the organisation after stepping down.

He continued: ‘Andrew and Kerry will work together to ensure a smooth transition in leadership and that the core priorities for the Oral Health Foundation remain our focus.’

Kerry Geldart took over the position from Nigel Carter, who led the charity for almost 30 years.

She said: ‘Nigel led with kindness, integrity and humility. He cared deeply about people and had an extraordinary ability to bring people together. He gave his time generously, encouraged others to believe in themselves and always made people feel that their ideas and contributions mattered. He celebrated the success of others far more readily than his own. 

‘We will honour his memory by continuing the work that meant so much to him and ensuring his extraordinary legacy lives on.’
